The Secondary Education Board of Assam (SEBA) has announced significant updates regarding the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) Examination 2024, along with forthcoming changes in the assessment system. This article provides a detailed insight into the examination procedures, eligibility criteria, examination program, and future modifications.

SEBA HSLC 2024 Examination Routine

The High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) Examination in Assam witnesses significant changes and updates for the academic year 2024. With the amalgamation of various educational policies and administrative decisions, the landscape of secondary education in the state undergoes transformational reforms.

The HSLC Examination 2024 is scheduled to commence from the first week of February 2024, running through March 2024. A total of 4,25,924 students are expected to appear for the examination across 913 examination centers throughout Assam. This marks a notable increase from the previous year's figures.

The examination featured a blend of traditional answer scripts and personalized Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) sheets. Objective type questions, constituting 50% of the total marks, will be assessed through personalized OMR sheets, while the remaining 50% will be addressed using separate answer scripts containing 16 pages each. The core subjects covered under the OMR system include English (C1), General Mathematics (C2), General Science (C3), and Social Science (C4).

The Student must have the following criteria for HSLC examination 2024

Regular attendance and participation in Unit Test-1 and subsequent examinations.

Students who participated in Unit Test-1 and are consistently attending classes, along with subsequent examinations such as Unit Test-II, Half-Yearly Examination, and Pre-Board Examination, are deemed eligible. Furthermore, unsuccessful candidates from the HSLC Examination 2023, upon readmission in Class-X, are required to adhere to a similar criterion, emphasizing regular attendance and participation in various assessments.

Re-admitted candidates from the previous year's unsuccessful batch must attend classes regularly and participate in designated examinations.

The handling of sealed boxes/cartons containing confidential materials remains unchanged from the previous examinations. These materials cannot be opened during transit or in police stations; they will only be accessed in the sorting room of the examination center. Confidential materials, such as question papers, will be opened exclusively within the examination hall/room.

The examination is scheduled to run from February 16 to March 2024, with morning and afternoon shifts. Additional reading time of 5 minutes is allotted before the commencement of each shift to facilitate a thorough understanding of the question paper.

In line with educational reforms and the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, significant changes have been announced for the future of the HSLC examinations in Assam. Starting from the academic year 2024, Class 10 board examinations will be discontinued. Instead, a single educational board will be established to oversee the matriculation-level assessment. The merging of the Board of Secondary Education, Assam (SEBA), and the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) will facilitate this transition.

Recent announcements by the Assam Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, herald a paradigm shift in the educational landscape. As per the National Education Policy (NEP 2020), Assam Class 10 board examinations will be replaced with school-level assessments, signaling a departure from traditional examination paradigms. The amalgamation of the Board of Secondary Education, Assam (SEBA), and Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) into a unified educational entity signifies a strategic realignment towards holistic educational governance.

It is noteworthy to mention that starting this year, Assam will no longer have the 'stand' system in the HSLC and HS examinations, as announced by Education Minister Ranoj Pegu, who highlighted that the system adds unnecessary pressure on students and doesn't aid in their academic progress.

The Assam HSLC Result 2024 is anticipated to be declared in April, 2024, with the option for re-evaluation available in June 2024. The compartment examination, if necessary, will be held in July 2024.
